Travel
I love travel. I enjoy nothing more than exploring new places, getting to know foreign cultures, and meeting people from different backgrounds. It is because of this that I like getting to actually live abroad even more than city trips or your typical beach vacation. For me, it’s more about seeing the world from a different perspective; described in a different language, appreciated on another level.
I lived in South England for a little over a month when I was about 14 but it wasn’t until I was an exchange student in the United States for a whole year at the age of 16 that I discovered the drive and thirst for extensive travel in me. I moved to the Netherlands, where I still live now, when I was 20. Most recently, I lived in Sweden for five months as part of my studies. I’ve been to Paris and London and Berlin, to Stockholm and Brussels and Edinburgh. I’ve been to Washington, D.C. and Tenerife, just off the coast of Africa. I’m not particularly fond of my home country, Germany. In my personal experience, Germans lack that certain joie de vivre that so many other people embody and it makes life pointless and miserable.
This planet and its inhabitants are so extraordinary, I want to see it all.
Here’s a list of all the places I currently hope to go at least once in my life. Some places I’ve already been and I want to come back (in italic). Most are not just interesting cities but home to good friends of mine (marked with ♥):
♥ Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
♥ Bangalore, India
• Chicago, United States
• Edinburgh, Scotland
♥ Kentucky (Lawrenceburg, Louisville…)
♥ Moscow, Russia
♥ Mumbai, India
• New York, United States
♥ Oslo, Norway
• Paris, France
♥ Prague, Czech Republic
♥ Rabat, Morocco
• Stockholm, Sweden
♥ Vancouver, Canada
Plus: an extensive road trip across the United States. I want to see all of it. The coasts, the heartland, the famous cities, the National Parks. My main goal in life is to be able to afford that at some point.
