About
Hi and hello! I’m very surprised and excited that you made your way to my little corner of the online world! I just went from being an arts and culture student in the Netherlands to interning in press and PR on the 9th floor of a fancy building in downtown Cologne. I once lived near Louisville, KY for a year and in Southern Sweden for six months; both experiences have made me who I am. I have no plans of ever settling down in any place for good. (In fact, the thought alone scares and saddens me quite a bit.)
I love travel (obviously), a cozy home, good food, and pretty things.
My favorite month is December, and I am obsessed with snow. (Summer and hot weather, meanwhile, agitate me endlessly.) I am a huge history and science nerd, and often wish I could know and understand everything that ever happened in the universe and on our planet. I am in love with Jon Stewart, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Anderson Cooper. I own a fancy Canon SLR, and know nothing about it: I have so much left to learn about photography. I’m struggling with weight loss and healthy living. I care about animal rights and renewable energies and organic food.
More things I like:
photography · dogs · French · coding · blueberries · Kentucky · baking · Facebook · inside jokes · Sweden · documentaries · pasta dishes · America · learning languages · jeans · meeting new people · airports · Paris · cheeseburgers · blues and greens · music · ear rings · postcards · reading · National Geographic · boots · foreign cultures · old movies · Scottish accents
I watch:
Mad Men & The Big Bang Theory & House & Friday Night Lights & 30 Rock & Parenthood & The Daily Show with Jon Stewart & No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain & Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution & The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and I’m a long-time fan of Friends and Gilmore Girls

I’ve been blogging since 2003, and have really come to appreciate it as a diary-like documentation of my everyday life; outlet for creativity in writing, photography, and website design; listener when no one else will listen; and perfect medium to meet people from all over the world.
OCEANS AWAY is named after a song by The Fray of the same name. I chose it because friends all over the world + no idea where life will take me next + my chronic wanderlust + having moved to a foreign country before I turned 21 = I am always oceans away from where I want to be – both figuratively and geographically. I used to blog at highwaybynight.com for a year inbetween but returned to this domain because it just seemed a much better fit.
This blog runs on WordPress. All content and photographs are mine, unless otherwise noted.
