Kitchen garden magic
So. Exactly seven days ago, I bought grow bags from a supermarket chain that had some soil in them and basil, mint and chives seeds. I sowed the seeds, watered regularly, and waited. I had high hopes for the basil especially because of the never-ending array of delicious meals that are made that much more heavenly once you add fresh basil. You know: pasta, salads, soups, pizza, fish; the list goes on and on!

May I introduce: my basil, at seven days old. Would you just look at this? The first three days, nothing happened, and then- BAM! I could almost watch these tiny little plants grow! Heh.
I know this is kinda dumb but- nature amazes me. Constantly. And I love the National Geographic shows that explain all the fascinating phenomena that keep our world spinning; the power and ingenuity and perseverance contained in nature. But all that seems so far away, you know? To someone like me who has not grown up with any connection to nature at all, be it through organic food or gardening or hunting or anything like that, the fact that a real plant that is eatable will grow on my window sill all by itself if I put in just a minimal amount of effort is ASTOUNDING.

The chives are doing fine as well, by the way. The mint? Not so much. I researched a bit online and found that mint is typically quite difficult to grow from seeds – but we’ll see. Not that I even care all that much because, really, have you seen the basil?

Isn’t it brilliant how satisfying it is to grow plants from scratch? Even more so when you can eat them :)

Yeah, as long as the basil is growing, you’re set! You can use it so often!

I grew basil once (und Kresse in der Grundschule ;)) and I was as amazed at nature as you are…. you can literally see those little plants pop up from the soil. Amazing! Can’t wait until you share all the yummy recipes :)

Ahhh this is so cool! Where did you get the basil (and other stuff) in a bag?
