I turned in my two finals on Friday. Both “Globalization of recent conflicts in the Arab world through the media” (8000 words) and the less distinct “Sensoriality and tourism” (3000 words) are DONE. I’m not one to hope for straight As, so whenever I hand in something that has a chance of passing, I’m thrilled. Heh. Unfortunately…
I may not graduate this summer. Yeah, this is probably the most horrifying news I could have received. I met with the student advisor on Friday. Apparently, while working my ass off making up courses from last year, I completely overlooked that I also should have been taking a bachelor thesis prep course that is mandatory and cannot be made up in any other way. Students are also not allowed to write their theses without taking this course. Effectively, this means I will have to take the course next year and graduate a year later. Which is obviously NOT AN OPTION. So I’m currently trying to get the decision-makers in charge to make an exception, please, just this once. I should know by the end of the week. (I mean, can you imagine… A whole year wasted, just like that? FUCK.)
Other stuff I’ve been doing… Talked to my BFF Nadine about possibly visiting her in Edinburgh again this summer. (It would be amazing if this could happen but the chances are slim…) Enjoyed the sun as much as I can. Yearned for the next big football tournament, the Euro 2012. Mailed a birthday card to my wonderful host dad in Kentucky. Went through the literature lists for two upcoming courses and happily discovered that, for once, all books are available at the university library! Listened to a lot of Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson, and other artists that make me miss early MTV.

I have finals coming up and am not looking forward to them. Oh well… it’s gotta get done though.

Oh LIEBCHEN, this exact same shit happened to me. My advisor missed FOUR UPPER LEVEL LIT CLASSES I had to take, so instead of my final semester being one German, one writing, a Linguistics, a filler classes to be full time…it was FOUR UPPER LEVEL LIT classes PLUS Linguistics PLUS German. I made it work but it sucked.
My advice is work it out if you can, but speaking from experience, sometimes, it is better to take an extra semester to do better work…
